Dinner and A Song July 16th
Featuring Melissa Greener
We had a great time last month at our first Dinner and Song, so we're doing it again, and again...
Enjoy an evening of food and song.
Our July DNS event features, folk-crooner, Melissa Greener
Nashville based folk-crooner Melissa Greener tells the truth. Her songs captivate with quirkily crafted lyrics, dynamic melodies and loads of groove. She uses the everyday weather report as well as natural disasters as favored poetic devices to "paint superb portraits of the human condition" (Maverick Music Magazine -UK). Impressive vocal chops that devastate and command wrap striking imagery from water-color landscapes to sharpened steel.
Transistor Corazon, Greener's third studio release, explores complexities of the heart - the circuitry versus the soul, the mana versus the machine. The sound combines modernist lyricism and a soulful 1960's Laurel Canyon. Her vibey tremelo electric guitar next to her trusty Greenfield acoustic round out the feel.
Growing up in Detroit with an intoxicating potion of Mo-town, standard torch ballads, 'oldies' and classic rock, Greener's singular sound evolved. The unique brew emerged as the fermentation of a classically trained soprano mother, who sang in the lounge of the Playboy Club, and a politically bent hippie father. Years living in Austin, Texas made their mark on Greener's sound and style, but her lyrical influences go back to the books of poetry that she stole from the junior high school library - Dylan Thomas, Robert Service, Dickenson and Yeats.
Ever after the next adventure, Greener has trekked mountain ranges in the Alps, Slovakia and Tibet. She's pedaled a bicycle solo across Canada and lived in a rural village in China. 'I once sailed so far into the Mediterranean Sea I couldn't see land, and have seen so many stars in an Egyptian desert I couldn't see the sky.' Her current adventure is a full time schedule of international touring, performing in theaters, festivals and house concerts.
Transistor Corazon was produced, recorded and mixed by Brad Jones (Hayes Carll, Josh Rouse, Jill Sobule, Richard Julian, Swan Dive, Over The Rhine) at his studio Alex the Great in Nashville, Tennessee. Greener's sophomore release, Dwelling (Anima, 2010), was produced by John Jennings (Mary Chapin Carpenter) and has won awards and glowing reviews throughout the music industry. Fall From the Sky (Anima, 2006), her debut release, continues to receive attention from an international community.
